Let’s get into it…
Coldplay is set to release an 8-song EP on November 24th called Prospekts March featuring 8 new songs that weren’t put on Viva La VIda or Death And All His Friends. Both the standalone EP and a repackaged edition of ‘Viva La Vida…’ with the new EP bundled will be available for purchase beginning on the said date. The new set will include Coldplay’s new single “Lost!” in a version featuring superstar rapper Jay-Z, who I must say set the song on fire! The new collaboration is called “Lost!+” or “Lost+”. Now that’s a nice way of saying “remix” without saying “remix” haha. I thought I liked the song before, but now I love it! Jay-Z’s rap quasi-surprisingly fit in perfectly! [Listen]
Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown” stormed up to #1 a few weeks ago on the Billboard Hot 100 and now he has again leaked his own song on the net via his blog. “Heartless” is said to be the second single off of upcoming album 808’s & Heartbreak, album due out November 24th. The rumor is that the whole album is entirely composed of auto-tuned songs. That could mean Kanye not only raps on the songs, but sings as well, as demonstrated on “Love Lockdown” and here on this second single “Heartless”. I give credit to Kanye for trying to push the boundaries of his talent as a producer and an artist but I fear this could lead to a whole mob or other artists/singers who will just ‘auto-tune’ their way into a whole album and a career in music… not good… not good at all. Hopefully that doesn’t happen, the world gets enough shitty music already as it is. Anyway, [Listen] to Kanye’s “Heartless”.
Alanis Morissette’s current album Flavors of Entanglement isn’t selling too well. Too bad, because I think its a great album despite the mixed reviews it got from critics. It just happens to be one of my favorite releases of the year, sure to end up on my year-end ‘best of’ list. The current single, “Not As We” is the most popular song on the album based on audience reception and download count of the album’s tracks. I didn’t know that they remixed it for radio until I saw the music video last week. Alanis looked quite pretty on the video, which I could honestly say doesn’t happen too often lol. Way to move on after her breakup with Ryan Reynolds, making herself puurrty for the next one to hopefully come along haha. Good on her! Anyway, check out the radio remix version of “Not As We” [Here], and another version of the remixed version with added drums that sends the song on a whole ‘nother level [Here]. Despite the “improved” versions, something about the original’s piano-only accompaniment on the album makes it more fitting… makes it more heartbreaking.
Death Cab for Cutie’s “Cath…” is at the moment slowly slithering its way to the upper tier of the US rock charts. A friend of mine recently asked why I didn’t put this up here and my reason was because I only post one track from a specific album release and I already posted “I Will Possess Your Heart” earlier this year. Though, I do break my own rule occasionally so here it is now hahaha. This is my favorite song off of Death Cab for Cutie’s Narrow Stairs album, another one of my favorite releases for the year. But I gotta say it doesn’t come close to their 2003 album Transatlanticism, that one is one of my favorites of all time. Here’s “Cath” for y’all… [Listen].

Val Emmich – “Too Far” – He is a pop rock singer-songwriter from New Jersey and this song is from his current album Little Daggers (out now!). Check out his songs on myspace, they’re quite catchy. Maybe his current acting stint on TV’s Ugly Betty as Betty’s new love interest will encourage radio PD’s to play his songs and propel him to the mainstream. Only time could tell. For now, enjoy this song and check out his Little Daggers album! [Listen]
Dido - “Grafton Street” – Dido is mesmerizing. This song off her new album Safe Trip Home is just that, too. Some people get bored with her songs and her voice but I find them very appealing. [Listen]
Stereophonics – “You’re My Star” – Stereophonics… they’re always either a hit or miss with me. Other songs I like from include “Pick A Part That’s New”, “Maybe Tomorrow”, “Dakota”, and “It Means Nothing”. I’m sure there are others but I can’t remember them right now. This new single from them, “You’re My Star”, I like very much. It’s a new song from their Best-of collection called Decade In The Sun. You can’t go wrong with that! Imma grab myself a copy, and I think so should you. [Listen]
The Real Tuesday Weld – “It’s A Wonderful Life” – I discovered them on the soundtrack to Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. This song is cute! Some verses remind me of Adam Sandler’s “Grow Old With You” from The Wedding Singer. This song is from their 2007 album The London Book of The Dead. [Listen]

Tracy Chapman - “Sing For You” – She may be running low on the lyrics, singing “tu tu tu tu tu tu tu” in the chorus lol… but this song is cute too… makes me sway and bob my head (like I’m high haha). It could fit nicely on a soundtrack to a romantic comedy film just like the song above this. Tracy Chapman’s new album Our Bright Future will be out on November 11th 2008. [Listen]
Fall Out Boy - “What A Catch, Donnie” – Quite different from their usual sound, I applaud them for trying. I really really like the melody on this one… quite sing-song-y. Their new album Folie A Deux has been pushed back to a December 16th release date. [Listen]
Kenny Chesney – “Nowhere To Go, Nowhere To Be” – A predictable ballad coming from Chesney this one is, but sometimes predictable is good. The familiar feeling feels good. I like the new album Lucky Old Sun, its full of laid-back beach-y vibes… just like his other one from a couple of years back Be As You Are. This song is one of my favorites from the new CD. [Listen]
If you like any of these songs, lemme know so I could possibly feature more like em. Go ahead, hit the comment button hehe. Thanks fro droppin’ by!
