I Could Sit For Hours Finding New Ways To Be Awed Each Minute

THE NEW SNOW PATROL ALBUM IS AMAZING!!!

Check out one of the tracks on the new album, a potential future single and potential HUGE smash…

“Crack The Shutters”

Watch out for this getting played in a pivotal scene on at least one major TV series within the next few months. It just screams soundtrack to me… such poetic lyrics for such a simple moment… so awesome! Buy the CD when it comes out! A Hundred Million Suns will be out in Ireland on October 24, in the UK on October 25, and in the US (and worldwide) on October 26, 2008.

P.S. did i get the lyrics right? the line in the post title?

Tuesday Music Roundup (10/21/08 Edition)

Let’s get into it…

Coldplay is set to release an 8-song EP on November 24th called Prospekts March featuring 8 new songs that weren’t put on Viva La VIda or Death And All His Friends. Both the standalone EP and a repackaged edition of ‘Viva La Vida…’ with the new EP bundled will be available for purchase beginning on the said date. The new set will include Coldplay’s new single “Lost!” in a version featuring superstar rapper Jay-Z, who I must say set the song on fire! The new collaboration is called “Lost!+” or “Lost+”. Now that’s a nice way of saying “remix” without saying “remix” haha. I thought I liked the song before, but now I love it! Jay-Z’s rap quasi-surprisingly fit in perfectly! [Listen]

Kanye West’s “Love Lockdown” stormed up to #1 a few weeks ago on the Billboard Hot 100 and now he has again leaked his own song on the net via his blog. “Heartless” is said to be the second single off of upcoming album 808’s & Heartbreak, album due out November 24th. The rumor is that the whole album is entirely composed of auto-tuned songs. That could mean Kanye not only raps on the songs, but sings as well, as demonstrated on “Love Lockdown” and here on this second single “Heartless”. I give credit to Kanye for trying to push the boundaries of his talent as a producer and an artist but I fear this could lead to a whole mob or other artists/singers who will just ‘auto-tune’ their way into a whole album and a career in music… not good… not good at all. Hopefully that doesn’t happen, the world gets enough shitty music already as it is. Anyway, [Listen] to Kanye’s “Heartless”.

Alanis Morissette’s current album Flavors of Entanglement isn’t selling too well. Too bad, because I think its a great album despite the mixed reviews it got from critics. It just happens to be one of my favorite releases of the year, sure to end up on my year-end ‘best of’ list. The current single, “Not As We” is the most popular song on the album based on audience reception and download count of the album’s tracks. I didn’t know that they remixed it for radio until I saw the music video last week. Alanis looked quite pretty on the video, which I could honestly say doesn’t happen too often lol. Way to move on after her breakup with Ryan Reynolds, making herself puurrty for the next one to hopefully come along haha. Good on her! Anyway, check out the radio remix version of “Not As We” [Here], and another version of the remixed version with added drums that sends the song on a whole ‘nother level [Here]. Despite the “improved” versions, something about the original’s piano-only accompaniment on the album makes it more fitting… makes it more heartbreaking.

Death Cab for Cutie’s “Cath…” is at the moment slowly slithering its way to the upper tier of the US rock charts. A friend of mine recently asked why I didn’t put this up here and my reason was because I only post one track from a specific album release and I already posted “I Will Possess Your Heart” earlier this year. Though, I do break my own rule occasionally so here it is now hahaha. This is my favorite song off of Death Cab for Cutie’s Narrow Stairs album, another one of my favorite releases for the year. But I gotta say it doesn’t come close to their 2003 album Transatlanticism, that one is one of my favorites of all time. Here’s “Cath” for y’all… [Listen].

Val Emmich“Too Far” – He is a pop rock singer-songwriter from New Jersey and this song is from his current album Little Daggers (out now!). Check out his songs on myspace, they’re quite catchy. Maybe his current acting stint on TV’s Ugly Betty as Betty’s new love interest will encourage radio PD’s to play his songs and propel him to the mainstream. Only time could tell. For now, enjoy this song and check out his Little Daggers album! [Listen]

Dido - “Grafton Street”Dido is mesmerizing. This song off her new album Safe Trip Home is just that, too. Some people get bored with her songs and her voice but I find them very appealing. [Listen]

Stereophonics“You’re My Star”Stereophonics… they’re always either a hit or miss with me. Other songs I like from include “Pick A Part That’s New”, “Maybe Tomorrow”, “Dakota”, and “It Means Nothing”. I’m sure there are others but I can’t remember them right now. This new single from them, “You’re My Star”, I like very much. It’s a new song from their Best-of collection called Decade In The Sun. You can’t go wrong with that! Imma grab myself a copy, and I think so should you. [Listen]

The Real Tuesday Weld“It’s A Wonderful Life” – I discovered them on the soundtrack to Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist. This song is cute! Some verses remind me of Adam Sandler’s “Grow Old With You” from The Wedding Singer. This song is from their 2007 album The London Book of The Dead. [Listen]

Tracy Chapman - “Sing For You” – She may be running low on the lyrics, singing “tu tu tu tu tu tu tu” in the chorus lol… but this song is cute too… makes me sway and bob my head (like I’m high haha). It could fit nicely on a soundtrack to a romantic comedy film just like the song above this. Tracy Chapman’s new album Our Bright Future will be out on November 11th 2008. [Listen]

Fall Out Boy - “What A Catch, Donnie” – Quite different from their usual sound, I applaud them for trying. I really really like the melody on this one… quite sing-song-y. Their new album Folie A Deux has been pushed back to a December 16th release date. [Listen]

Kenny Chesney“Nowhere To Go, Nowhere To Be” – A predictable ballad coming from Chesney this one is, but sometimes predictable is good. The familiar feeling feels good. I like the new album Lucky Old Sun, its full of laid-back beach-y vibes… just like his other one from a couple of years back Be As You Are. This song is one of my favorites from the new CD. [Listen]

If you like any of these songs, lemme know so I could possibly feature more like em. Go ahead, hit the comment button hehe. Thanks fro droppin’ by!

Thank God It’s Friday (And I’m Not Dead)

It’s the start of the weekend… I’m stoked! Haha as if I’ll be able to rest… still got lots of stuff to do for work and my little side-projects, some of which are way past due. And we’re moving to a new home next weekend, that is if everything goes according to plan. If the move gets delayed again my dad’s probably gonna have a fit, like he did many times over the past week. Anyway, just wanted to give a shoutout to you guys and tell you that I’m still here, not dead. Hope y’all are doin’ great! I’ll be back real soon with regular updates.

For now though, let me leave you with a mini-mix of songs from a couple of genres that I don’t usually put up here but I actually dig on some level. Some of you would probably recognize these, but some of you wont. A couple of new tracks, and some goodies from recent years. I am letting you try this out because I think it goes with the weekend. And because I was doing laundry the other day and this was my soundtrack to it… which quite oddly fit rather well for some reason… that or I was out of my mind. If you don’t dig the first few ones you try out, at least give the last track a chance. If you don’t like any of these then I guess you’ll have to wait for the next post haha. Rhythmic, Trance-y, Liquidy, Ambient, Chill-out, Trippy…

1. Chicane – Saltwater (feat. Moya Brennan) [Edit]*

2. Adele – Hometown Glory (Axwell Club Mix)

3. Kaskade – 4AM (Adam K and Soha Radio Edit)**

4. Chicane – Spirit (feat. Jewel)*

5. Headstrong – Helpless (feat. Shelley Harland) [Mike Foyle Radio Edit]

6. ATB – The Autumn Leaves (feat. Michal The Girl)***

(*from “The Best of Chicane” CD out now!; **from Kaskade’s new album “Strobelight Seduction” out now!; *** from ATB’s 2004 album “No Silence”)

You could dance to it, take a trip with it, or sleep to it. Or maybe it’s just me hehe. Have a good weekend you guys!

Horses, Rabbits and Aqualung

Aqualung – “On My Knees” [listen] This is the first single from Aqualung’s fourth album Words and Music… an album comprised of several new songs written by Mr. Aqualung himself Matt Hales, as well as some old ones in acoustic settings, and a nice cover of Paul Simon’s “Slip-Sliding Away“. I am addicted to this! It didn’t make an instant impact when I first heard it some weeks ago but gradually it got stuck in my head and it hasn’t left there since… something about the melody keeps me going back to the song. Nice album, too… very cohesive. Its the perfect “pleading for forgiveness” song, not sappy yet full of just the right amount of heart. “Don’t you hear me calling? I’m on my knees. Don’t you feel me falling at your feet? All alone in the darkness holding my heart singing please… please…” Take him back already! (Album out now!)

Taylor Swift – “White Horse” [listen] This song is from Taylor’s upcoming sophomore album Fearless due out November 11th. It closes the album and is a really nice song of realization (relationship-wise) all in a very spare production with just a couple of guitars and a cello (or what sounds like a cello to my ears). It got played on the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy a couple of weeks ago… a true sign that Taylor’s songwriting skills are not to be dismissed. For someone just 18 years old, the road ahead is still full of countless experiences to be had… a whole plethora of songs-to-be-written await this talented young lady. Gosh I wrote that as if I’m a really old guy. ack! This file is a leak recording, it sounds high quality except for some noise you can hear in the background… though its not glaringly obvious that its there.

Nickelback – “Gotta Be Somebody” [listen] You probably heard this by now because this has been all over the net and on radio for the past ten days. I was so surprisingly psyched the first time I heard this last week because one I’m not a fan of the band, and two I didn’t expect to like it this much. The lyrics border on cheesy, but disguised in an outer rock layer by Chad Kroeger’s throaty vocals. The band put it up as a free download on their official website on September 29th then proceeded to make it available to online digital music retailers by September 30th. Weird move, I kinda get it but generally I don’t haha. Over here I’d like to pretend that its still September 29th so its free for you guys!!! Anyway, if you’d like to support the band, just buy it… you have the choice to do so. Is radio sick of them yet or not? Judging by the way the song’s airplay is increasing, I’m thinking its the latter. Their new album Dark Horse is scheduled for release on November 18th (huge week, what with spotlight whore Beyonce and American Idol David Cook releasing their albums that day too). This song was co-produced by Robert J “Mutt” Lange, hence the very poppy/rock-n-roll-y/radio-friendly production. Now I understand why I like this so much, its temporarily filling the void in me that Shania Twain (Mutt’s ex-wife) is supposed to fill with new music this year… you know, she was supposed to give me my fix of Mutt-produced music this year. I wonder how her new album’s gonna sound since her and Mutt split up. Dude, what were you thinking?!?! You DONT cheat on Shania! Hehe I’m digressing, sorry.

Matt Duke – “Rabbit” [listen] Matt hasn’t made a name for himself yet. The talent is there though, he writes songs like a poet. His second full-length LP is called Kingdom Underground (out now). This here is one of my favorite’s from that album, a very simple but beautiful song called “Rabbit“. Check out his myspace to preview his other songs… maybe you’ll like him, too. “Every sentiment hangs around no longer than a minute or two. I find I keep falling for love but I can’t seem to follow it through. So run, little rabbit, run.”

This is it for now… just a measly four songs. Sorry, I’ve been really busy. I’ll get back to you guys when I can. Take care and have a great weekend!
