Something Beautiful
Happy new year you guys! I know the greeting’s late, but you know what they say. 
Let me give you some music… slowly this time, track by track. I wanna share with you guys what I’ve been addicted to this past month, and for many more years to come I can safely say. The band is called Needtobreathe.
They’re a rock band from Seneca, South Carolina. The lineup includes brothers Bear and Bo Rinehart on vocals, piano and guitars, Seth Bolt on bass, and Joe Stillwell on drums. The band is quite known in the Christian rock arena, but not much outside of that bubble. I have listened to their previous two albums, and while they were good they didn’t really leave much room for repeated listens. However, their cover of “Go Tell It On The Mountain” is brilliant, and their song “Washed By The Water” is now one of my all-time favorite songs.
Things are about to change for these guys I think… pretty soon. Their third album, The Outsiders, was released around August of last year but based on previous album-listening experiences I wasn’t really in a hurry to give it a whirl. On the first day of this year though, I finally spun the album and I was totally blown away! HUGE jump in music and songwriting quality from their previous records. Their blend of rock, soul, gospel, and southern sensibilities are showcased in a much more versatile musical playground this time around compared to the consistent but safe grounds they previously tread on past albums.
That said, I highly recommend you get the album. But don’t set any expectations just because of the superlatives I used here to describe them and the album. With that, I do hope you will hear what I heard from these guys that turned me from an indifferent listener to an avid follower of the band. And may I just say, that Bear Rinehart sounds so much like Caleb Followill from Kings of Leon. I hear Sister Hazel’s Ken Block and Drew Copeland somewhere in there, too. All in all, a very good impression on me.
Now, which song to pick for here….. uhm….. hmmmm…..

Okay, I’ve decided on “Something Beautiful”. I see and hear a potential crossover smash waiting to happen from this song. But in all honesty, I truly believe that all its going to take now for Needtobreathe to become huge all over the world is one single hit song and the rest will follow in due course. However, for curiosity’s sake… just so you’d know, the other songs from the album that I considered for this feature were “Through Smoke”, “Lay ‘Em Down”, and “These Hard Times”. Here is the song:
