You Run Away
Ever notice how when comedic actors make their foray into serious dramatic movies they turn out even more heartbreaking just because you’re so used to them making you laugh and you’re not used to them in those serious situations? Like Jim Carrey in The Truman Show or Adam Sandler in….. the last part of Click. That’s how I feel about this new song from Barenaked Ladies.

I’m so used to Barenaked Ladies’ music being fun, witty, upbeat and at times quirky. But this new single of theirs is quite serious. And strangely enough I quite like it a lot. The song’s obviously an ode to the departure of their other lead singer and founding member, Steven Page, who left the band last year via a mutual decision between him and the other band members. From what I can hear on the new song, it sounds like he left a huge scar on the rest of the guys. It’s quite sad. It reminds me of another “serious” song from the band from years ago called “Am I The Only One?”, also a favorite of mine. Now I’m wondering if the rest of the new album’s going to be heavy as well. Their new record due out March 30th is called All In Good Time.
This is the new album’s heartbreaking first single…
