Who is Matt Morris?
You might have noticed during the Hope For Haiti telethon a couple of weeks ago that Justin Timberlake did a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” with a guy named Matt Morris. A couple of days before that they also appeared on The Ellen Degeneres Show and performed a song from Matt Morris’ new album When Everything Breaks Open. That particular song is right here… its called “Bloodline”. But first… who is this Matt Morris guy?

Full name Matthew Burton Morris is an American singer-songwriter currently signed to Justin’s Tennman Records. He is the son of Country music star Gary Morris and was once upon a time a member of The Mickey Mouse Club. To his credit, his songs have been previously recorded by pop music’s biggest stars including JT himself, Christina Aguilera, and Kelly Clarkson. Matt has come a long long way from his pop-leanings of old though, his last recorded collaboration with Timberlake was via a song on Reba McEntire’s Duets album called “The Only Promise That Remains”, a Celtic-tinged haunting country ballad he co-wrote with Timberlake that proves closer to Matt’s current sound than anything the above-mentioned pop artists had recorded.
The songs on Matt Morris’ first album, When Everything Breaks Open, are subdued, earthy, and soulful, with dashes of southern, reggae, and gospel flavors spread throughout the record. And while the album is not perfect, it shows a great amount of promise as evidenced by this gorgeous song right here.

Watch out for this guy in the coming months… he could make bigger waves. As for the song, I have my thoughts on what its about, but would you care to share yours?
