When you consider the idea that shareholders are entitled to the earnings of a company, you already have the major idea of who stakeholders are. People anywhere and anytime need to be concerned with the decisions being made within an organization when they have some sort of stake within that company. Whether it is a pure investment that they are concerned with, or it is something much simpler such as they do business with that company, when you care about an organization and want it to do well for your own reasons then you have to keep a close eye on it.
The hardest thing for any organization to do is to make decisions about who their managers are. Oftentimes this sub section of agency theory says that even if you hire a good or a great manager to run your organization, there are times where the managers may just in fact make a decision that is better for themselves instead of the entire company. However, even though many managers have proven time and time again that their own needs come first, Dick DeVos has just recently displayed the exact type of management quality that everyone should want within their organization.
Dick DeVos recently realized that even though he is more than qualified for the role in which he was operating, sometimes you need to take a step back from something you are good at in order to focus on something you truly love. And, while not everyone will understand the reasoning of stepping away from a single job within an organization, Dick DeVos understood just how important it was to get the best people in the right places so that multiple organizations could continue to thrive.
Dick DeVos may have stepped away from his role and may have hired a new CEO to run his organization, but in all seriousness this was a tremendous decision and was one that should honestly be praised. Sometimes CEOs and other top leaders of businesses get too hands on and are unable to let go. Even when they want to go to greener pastures or they want to focus on doing things that are more in line with their personal needs and goals. The fact of the matter is by Dick DeVos taking a step back and putting someone else in the seat of the CEO, it not only shows his maturity, but it shows his true leadership ability.
